The potential energy of a freely falling object decreases progressively. Does this violate the law of conservation of energy? Why?

Sciences - Main Course Book

Chapter 11. Work and Energy

In this case, potential energy decreases but velocity of the body increases due to gravitational acceleration. Hence the kinetic energy of the body increases, which makes up for the loss of the potential  energy. Thus, it may be said the total energy of the system remains constant. Therefore, law of conservation of mass is not violated in this case.
