Substitute each of the value 1, –2 and 3 into the polynomial and check. 
If the result is 0 then the value is the solution otherwise not. 

x = 1  ⇒  (1)^3 - 2(1)^2 - 5(1) + 6 = 1-2-5+6 = 0

x = -2 ⇒ (-2)^3 - 2(-2)^2 - 5(-2) + 6 = -8-8+10+6 = 0

x = 3  ⇒(3)^3 - 2(3)^2 - 5(3) + 6 = 27-18-15+6 = 0

Therefore, 1, –2 and 3 are the roots of x^3 - 2x^2 - 5x + 6
