In a family the sum of parents age is 5 times the sum of the age of their two children what will be the ages of their two children if elder child is three

years more than the younger child if sum of the parents age is 65.

Let the age of two children be x and y Given , the sum of parents age is 65 and the sum of parents age is 5 times the sum of the age of their two children ⇒65 = 5(x+y)------(1) Also given that the elder child is three years more than the younger child ⇒x= 3+y---------(2) ⇒65 = 5[(3+y)+y] ⇒65 = 5(3+2y) ⇒65 = 15+10y ⇒10y = 65-15 ⇒10y = 50 ⇒y=50/10 = 5 Now,x = 3+y = 3+5 = 8 Therefore , x = 8 and y = 5.
