Sum of the observation divided by total number of observation

example - Find the mean for the following list of values:13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13The mean is the usual average, so:(13 + 18 + 13 + 14 + 13 + 16 + 14 + 21 + 13) ÷ 9 = 15Note that the mean isn't a value from the original list. This is a common result. You should not assume that your mean will be one of your original numbers.

Mean= sum of observations/ total no. of observations Eg. Suppose population of a single area is 1000 people in which 200 are children , 600 are adults and 200 are old people. So mean = 200 + 600 + 200/ 3= 1000/3 Or Mean for 23,45,12,10= 23+45+12+10/4=90/4=45/2
