A dependent clause cannot stand alone as a sentence. whereas. An independent clause is a complete thought that contains a subject and verb, and expresses an entire idea.

dependent or subordinate clause is very different from main or principal or independent clause. main clause has its full sense but dependent clause doesn't make the complete sense . the subordinate clause can only get its meaning if the main clause is joined with it with the the help of noun clause or adjective clause or adverb clause.
