The bell plays an important role in this poem.It is the object due to which the Abbot of aberborthok  was praised,due to which which  the Rover  hated the Abot . the bell has been used in both good and evil ways. the abbot used it in a purpose to help the other sailors , so the they are warned of danger and are protected. on  the other hand , the rover uses the same bell, i.e., the inchcape bell , to satisfy the hatred he feels for the abbot. the bell which was once tied to the inchcape rock for a solely pure reason, is cut off from the rock for a purpose of revenge.
In the poem, When the rover is surrounded by death and finally realizes his horrific deed, he imagines that the bell is rung by the devil , waiting for his arrival in hell.
