Profit on 1 pen = Rs 1
loss on 1 pencil = Rs 0.30

let the number of pencils sold be = N
net profit-loss  =  40 pens * Rs 1  -  N * Rs 0.30   = - Rs 5.00
  solving that  we get :     N = 45 /0.30 = 150  pencils
