It is said that when, Rama, Sita and Lakshmana returned to Ayodhya after their 14 years of exile, the people lighted lamps to welcome them back home. Dussehra is celebrated for 9 to 10 days. the celebration of this festival in Mysor is said to be very grand. Diwali, festival of lights is celebrated about 20 or 25 days after dusshera.
