Universal suffrage means the right to vote being granted to all adults universally- men or women, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, black or white. This term is also known as Universal adult franchise. This is a right that ensures a democratic rule. It is interesting to note that New Zealand was the first country to grant its citizen with this, in 1893 though the countries which were among the first democracies did it very much later, like in US it was granted in 1965 and in France, in 1944.
