Will geographical isolation be a major factor in the speciation of an organism that reproduces asexually? Give reason for your answer.

Gujarat Board Class X Science and Technology Chapter 16 - Heredity and Evolution

Yes, geographical isolation is a major factor in the speciation of an organism which reproduces asexually. In organisms that reproduce asexually, variations arise due to mutation and natural selection. Organisms modify and adapt themselves to survive in the given environment. Thus, two groups of organisms of the same species living in different environmental conditions will form two different new species after many generations and lead to speciation.
