more than those mentioned above, secessionism,casteism,communalism and linguistic chauvinism are also challenges faced by Indian democracy.

The hardest thing about democracy is that it is almost impossible in its purist form, and as compromises are made it gets more and more limited. Even the United States, one of the greatest proponents of democracy, we have a democratic republic. Compromises such as the electoral college and gerrymandered districts produce a mutant form of democracy. If we cannot even get democracy right in the longest-lasting democratic country, how can we expect other countries to embrace it?
