ECO VILLAGE - With the help of illustrations, prepare a Master Plan of a an Eco Village, using Recycled and biodegradable matter.

A new bring site for commercial recyclable and reusable material is now open to businesses in Cork city and county. The Eco Village, which is the first business amenity site of its kind in Ireland, will make the target of zero waste a real possibility for Cork city and county by offering recycle and reuse services completely free of charge to Cork businesses. Rehab Recycle is urging local businesses in Cork to reuse and recycle their waste materials through the use of this new facility which will be open five days a week, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm, with additional monthly weekend WEEE collections. Research shows that almost half – over 500,000 tonnes – of all commercial waste in Ireland is paper. Every year, an average of two and a half tonnes of paper waste is generated in a small 15-person office. Speaking as he officially opened the new facility on the Monahan Road, Cllr. John Buttimer, Mayor of Cork said, “I am delighted to officially open Rehab Recycle’s Eco Village which is a great addition to recycling services offered in Cork. As the first business amenity site of its kind in Ireland, the Eco Village will offer Cork businesses the opportunity to lead the way in commercial recycling. It will also help to promote zero waste as a real possibility for Cork city and County.”

Martin Reddy, Commercial Manager, Rehab Recycle, outlined the types of materials that local businesses will be able to recycle for free at the facility. “We will take paper, cardboard, plastic and polystyrene, metal, batteries, glass, lights, phones, as well as clothing and shoes. Businesses can donate out-of-date or unused PCs and other electrical equipment through Rehab Recycle’s Promise It corporate social responsibility scheme. Confidential shredding of paper and hard-drives is available for a competitive fee. We are encouraging all businesses to make full use of the services on offer here to save money and promote a greener environment for everybody who lives and works in Cork.”
The Eco Village will also allow all PRI (producer responsibility initiatives) compliance schemes the opportunity to work together when promoting their respective recycling programmes. WEEE Ireland will support the Eco Village in Cork with Business to Consumer material which will come directly from retailers in Cork city and county. A door-to-door collection system will be provided for businesses in Cork by Rehab Recycle on a per tonne rate basis.
