A rectangular lawn is 60m by 40m and has two roads each 5m wide running in the middle of it. One parallel to its length and other parallel to the breadth .

Find the cost of constructing the roads at 80 sq.m.

First of all, the area of the road running parallel to the length of the lawn will be 5 x 60 = 300 sq.m. — (1) The area of the road running parallel to the breadth will be 5 x 40 = 200 sq.m. — (2)

Adding (1) and (2), we get: 300 + 200 = 500 sq.m.

Now, we know that the cost to construct these roads is ₹80 per sq.m, so the cost to construct 500 sq.m of road will be 80 x 500 = ₹40000.
