I had read that electrons in hydrogen jumps to the other shells when it's energy level increases. But hydrogen has only one shell i.e. k-shell. How is this

possible then?

May be it have any sub shells

You read right that when any atom like hydrogen gains energy, then valence electron jumps out of the orbit.Since hydrogen doesn't have 2nd orbit so it shares it electrons and reacts with elements to make co-valent bonds.
