Light enters from air into a glass plate which has a refractive index of 1.50. Calculate the speed of light in glass. The speed of light in air is ms-1.

We know that refractive index
= (speed of light in air/vaccum)/(speed of light in that medium)
          = c/v
∵c = 3×10^8 m/s
⇒1.50 = (3×10^8)/v
⇒v = (3×10^8)/1.50
⇒v = 2×10^8 m/s
