Let the common factor be x so...one root is alpha and so other be beta...so according to the information.. alpha=3beta.
we know.. alpha*beta=c/a=>3beta^2=12=>beta^2=4=>beta =2...so..now we also know that alpha +beta=-b/a=>4beta=-k=>4*2=-k=>-8=k(ans)
