It is estimated that there are eight times as many deer in a forest as there are on the bank of a river near the forest. If the total number of deer in the

forest and on the bank of river is 153, find the number of deer in the forest.

Answer : 136

Let number of deer at bank be x.
∴ No. of deer in the forest = 8x

Total no. of deer = x+8x = 9x
=> 153 = 9x
=> x = 153/9 = 17 deer

17 deer at bank.
∴ No. of deer at forest = 8(17) = 136
