Particles in water at 273 K have more energy as compared to particles in ice at the same temperature. Justify the statement.



Water is liquid while ice is solid. Particles of the liquids are weakly attracted as inter particle distance is large whereas particles of the solids are strongly attracted as inter particle distance between them is very small. As inter particle distance is large in case of liquids they are free to move with a greater energy than that of the solids.

Because water is a liquid and ice is a solid. So, water will have lose pack particle and ice will have tight pack particle. And those particle which have lose pack particle will have more energy than those which have tight pack particle.
