Nitrogen cannot form pentahalides because it cannot expand its octet due to the non-availability of d-orbitals.
Nitrogen has only two shells (n=2), thus it has s and p orbitals only. Due to this reason nitrogen cannot expand its covalence beyond four(because of absence of d-orbitals), thus it does not form pentahalide.
