A mineral is an inorganic substance that occurs naturally. It has a distinct chemical composition and a distinct crystalline form. Mineralization is a process of converting a substance into a mineral.

In mineralization process, the organic substances (dead) are completely breakdown with the end products being carbon dioxide, water and nutrients.

It is a process in which an organism produces inorganic substance from organic substance. It is done through a chemical transformation in a natural way. In human bodies, mineralization is responsible for growth of bones, teeth etc. These inorganic substances are minerals formed from phosphorous, sulfur, iron, magnesium, manganese, calcium such as clacium carbonate, magnesium sulfate etc. The formation of egg shells is also due mineralization.

High Pressure and high temperatures play important role in mineralization process. Silicates are the largest occurring minerals inside Earth.
