(a) In a process, 701 J of heat is absorbed by a system and 394 J of work is

done by the system. What is the change in internal energy for the process? (b)
Calculate the internal energy change when the system absorbs 5 KJ of heat and
1KJ of work



(a) From First Law of Thermodynamics,
ΔU=Q - W

Given that ΔQ=701(Heat energy supplied to the system)
ΔW=396 (work is done by the system)

:. ΔU= 701-396= 305 joules

(b) ΔU=Q-W

ΔU= 5-1=4 kilojoules
