A person whose retina is damaged is not able to see because retina acts as a screen for our eye  on which the images are formed. And, if it gets damaged, the images will not be formed and the brain will not recognize the object. That's it.

A person whose retina is damaged is not ale to see anything as the retina acts a screen where the image of the object is formed .. if the screen is damaged the image will not be focused .and image willl not be formed ..causing loss of eye sight.
