A rectangular sheet of cardboard is 4cm by 2cm. The greatest possible circle is cut off from the cardboard, then find the remaining area.

Dimensions of the cardboard=4 cm and 2 cm
Area  of the cardboard= 2 cm*4 cm=8 cm²
Since the least dimension= 2 cm,
the greatest possible circle can have a diameter of maximum 2 cm.
Radius=D/2=1 cm.
Area of the circle=πR²
=22/7*1*1 cm²
=22/7 cm²
Remaining area=8 cm² - 22/7 cm²
=34/7 cm² =4 6/7 cm²(Mixed fraction)
Ans:The remaining area is 4 6/7 cm².
