The maasai pastoralists were not allowed to enter the reserves formed by the colonial government by taking the grazing lands from the pastorals
the best grazing lands were gradually taken over for white settlement and the massai were pushed into a small area
as cultivation expanded ,pasturelands were turned into cultivated fields in the pre colonial rule the massai society dominated agriculture neighbours both economically and politically .by the end of the pre colonial rule it was reversed
the boundaries of the reserves became the limits within which they could now move 
pastoralists were even not allowed to enter the markets in white areas
