Q1. Sailesh has some five-rupee coins and some two-rupee coins in his wallet. The number of two-rupee coins is is double the number of five-rupee coins. If

Sailesh has Rs 72 in all in his wallet, then how many five-rupee notes and two rupee notes are in it?

Q2. The number of girls in a school is 10 times the number of teachers. The number of boys exceeds the number of girls by 20. If there are 1049 students and teachers in the school, find how many teachers, boys and girls there are in the school.

Solution : Answer 1 : Let the Number of five Rupees coins be x. Therefore , Number of two rupee coins = 2x Total amount(in RS) = 72 we know that , 5*number of five rupee coins + 2*number of two rupee coins = total amount 5*x+2*2x =72 or 5x +4x =72 or 9x = 72 x= 72/9 or x=8 Hence Number of five rupee coins = 8 therefore , number of two rupee coins = 2x = 2*8 =16

Answer 2:- Let the number of teachers = x therefore , number of girls = 10x hence number of boys = 10x +20

Number of Students and Teachers = 1049 ( Number of teachers and students = number of boys + number of girls + number of teachers )

or x + 10x + 10x+20 = 1049 ( where x= number of teachers 10x = number of girls 10x+20 = number of boys ) 21x+20 = 1049 21x = 1049 - 20 21x = 1029 or x = 1029/21 x=49 therefore number of teachers = 49 hence number of girls = 10*x = 10*49 = 490 and number of boys = 10*x + 20 = 10*49 + 20 = 490 + 20 = 510
