No mercury cannot used as an electrolyte
becoz metals are not electrolyte and meatal conduct electricity in any form whether it may be solid or liquide it is becoz there electrons are not attached to nucleus and they are free to move

Metals we know are good conductor of electricity, liquid or solid. This is because they have lots of conducting electrons. These electrons have escaped from atoms and are free to move throughout the metal.Whereas, Electrolytes conduct electricity because positive and negative ions are free to move , not the individual electrons..So, mercury can't be used as an Electrolytes
