A canon of mass 800g moving with a velocity of 30m/s explodes into two parts having masses in the ratio 2:3. if the speed of the lighter part is 40m/s then find the speed of the heavier part

Are the parts of the cannon moving in the same line as the cannon ? Is the lighter part of the cannon moving in the same direction as the cannon or opposite to its direction ?
yes they are moving in same direction

Mass of heavier part = 800 * 3 / 5 = 480 g
Mass of lighter part is 320 g

Let velocity of the heavier particle be x.
From law of conservation of momentum,
Initial momentum = Final momentum
0.8*30 = 0.32*40 + 0.48*x  (If lighter part moves in same direction as the cannon)
x = (0.8*30 - 0.32*40)/0.48 = 24.8 m/s

0.8*30 = - 0.32*40 + 0.48*x  (If lighter part moves in opposite direction as the cannon)
x = (0.8*30 + 0.32*40)/0.48 = 76.6 m/s
