the britishers banned shifting cultivation because it made it difficult to calculate taxes,it imposed a threat to wood trees etc..
the new forest policies/laws also affected them adversely
as the control of forest came under the colonials,they prevented this jhum cultivators from practising their occupation( shifting cultivation) freely.
many were forced to move to other areas in search of work
