Work is the dot product of force and displacement
While energy is the capacity of doing of work
For example
An object at height of 10m of mass 1 kg has gravitational potential energy as 100 J(mgh)
so if it falls down the work done by gravitational force on object is 100 J
so from that height if it falls it can do this much work
so it has a capacity to do this much work that's energy

It takes energy to do work.Energy is defined as the capacity to do work.WORK=FORCE TIME DISTANCE.When work is done energy is transferred between two systems due to law of conservation of energy.so we need energy to do work so both are interdependent
.The SI UNIT of work and energy= JOULE
