An English scientist, named Robert Hooke discovered the cell. He also coined the word 'cell'. One day, in 1665, while observing a slice of dry cork, he found that it was made up of chambers. These chambers were actually the walls of cells. The other components of the cell, like the nucleus, mitochondria, Golgi bodies, etc. were discovered later onwards.
