Solids are rigid because the inter molecular forces of attraction that are present in solids are very strong. The constituent particles of solids cannot move from their position they can only vibrate from their mean position.

Because there is highest force of attraction in solids that's why there molecules are attracted to each other maintaining a least distance and solids have low temperature (average kinetic energy of molecules) that is why solids are rigid
