Father and son - age ratio = 1:2

Statement: After 4 years, Mr. Sharma will 4 times his son's age of 9 years ago.

Then, lets express in equation form-

Mr. Sharma age = s
Son age= r

r = s/2
or s = r2

after 4 years...

s+4 = (r - 9)*4

The answer to this question cannot be found. It is impossible as both the person's age is unknown. So, I have just expressed Mr. Sharma and his son's ages in mathematical expressions.

Let the son's age be x and Mr Sharma's age be 2x.
After 4 years Mr Sharma will be = 2x+4
His son's age 9 years ago= x-9
4(x-9) = 2x+4
4x-36 = 2x+4
2x = 40
x = 20
Therefore, Mr Sharma is 40 years old and his son is 20 years old now.
