Mind is a not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled. I
intensely dislike the metaphor of the mind as a "vessel to be filled".
The mind simply does not work like that. It is not passive. It is
active. People do things, often great things. They are not simply
repositories of information or human capital - another term I dislike.
The paradigm of the mind as a container underlies much bad teaching
practice. We don't need to pour any information into kids heads. Just
"fire their imaginations" and they will make their own way in life!
