Soil is a substance present on the earth's surface that is composed of Air, Minerals and many other materials. The ratio of air to water to organic materials to minerals in the composition of soil is 5:5:1:9. Thee are three layers of soil, Top Soil, which is seen on the top, Subsoil which is composed of minute rocks that weather and Bedrock, which is composed of a layer of rocks. Soil Erosion is a common phenomena that occurs when heavy winds or floods carry the soil away.

To control soil erosion in hilly areas, terrace farms should be made. Small buns should be layed around at regular intervals so that the soil sticks on it. Saplings from hilly areas and deciderous forests should be planted.
