It contains, among others, curcumin, which has been proven to be a powerful anti-inflammatory, similar to Cox-2 inhibitors. They are medicine reducing the Cox-2 enzyme that causes the pain and swelling of arthritis.

HCA (heterocyclic amines) are a type of potent carcinogens implicated in several types of cancer.
