Newspapers are used for advertising products and services of companies. They are used for wishing bon voyages and obituaries too. Also, notices from government, tender invitations, annual balance sheets of organizations and so on are printed. Editor communicates to the public his/her expert and educated analysis of the most importance issues of national or local importance.
Apart from these, young persons can do develop GK and learn some English language too as indirect benefits. Finally, often newspapers are used for time pass during waiting periods at many offices. In India all local street sellers use old newspapers as covers for parcels or packing materal or material used in serving fast foods.
