potassium burns when it comes in contact of oxygen because :

1. it burn because of a process called combustion. this potassium when it comes in to the contact of oxygen It just burns this is because of combustion.

2.  it easily catches fire when contact to the oxygen because of its special features.

3. the other reason for it flammability when contact of oxygen is that it is a very much reactive metal.
