White phosphorus glows in the dark when exposed to damp air in a process known as chemiluminescence.White phosphorous is a highly reactive element, which is spontaneously oxidized in the presence of air. It can, however, be stored under water.
It reacts vigorously with water and water-containing substances.
Oxygen------White phosphorus glows in the dark when exposed to damp air in a process known as chemiluminescence.Burning phosphorus with sufficient oxygen results in the formation of P4O10.

White phosphorus is made up of tetrahedral shaped P4 molecules with very strained (and weak) bonds.
P4 reacts with oxygen to make a white solid containing P4O10 molecules, which confusingly is called "phosphorus pentoxide"
