Long ago in the BCE Greek Philospher Aristotle proposed that Earth was round.  Alexandria philosopher Erastosthenes  also believed that and then tried estimating the diameter.  Greek Pythagoras is also credited with saying that Earth is round.

Actual convincing proof was given by the Portuguese explorer and adventurer Ferdinand Magellan in 1520s.  His expedition circumnavigated the Earth during three years, the first time in history.

Sir Isaac Newton measured gravity at various points on Earth.  As they were nearly equal, he proved that Earth was spherical.   There were other scientists and philosophers who proved the spherical nature by lengths of shadows of poles at different locations.

Then in 20th Century the photographs taken from space using spacecrafts proved the (near) spherical shape of Earth.
