Pandit Madan Mohan was born in a Brahmin family of Allahabad on December 25, 1861. His father's name was Pandit Malviya Brij Nath and mother’s name was Mona Devi. He had six brothers and two sisters. His education began at the age of five when he was sent to the school of Pandit Hardeva. After completing his studies from Calcutta University, in 1884 he was appointed as a teacher at his old school for a merge salary of Rs 40 per month. After completing his law degree in 1891, he started practicing law in Allahabad district court, and later moved to the Allahabad High Court in December 1893. 

He was an Indian educationist and politician 
notable for his role in the Indian independence movement and as the four time president of Indian National Congress. He is most remembered as the founder of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Varanasi in 1916. Malaviya was one of the founders of Scouting in India. He also founded English-newspaper, The Leader published from Allahabad in 1909. He was also the Chairman of Hindustan Times for two years. Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya is known for his contribution in India’s education system and his role in the Indian Independence movement.

 Malviya was a great politician. He was elected as the president of the Indian National Congress four time, in the years of 1909, 1918, 1930 and 1932. He served the Congress for almost 50 years and worked with 50 Congress Presidents.  The “Mahamana” title was presented to him by Mahatma Gandhi. He worked as the secretary of ‘Prayag Hindu society’ in 1880 and played an active part in organizing the ‘Madhya Bharat Hindu Samaj Conference’ at Allahabad in 1885.He initiated the ‘Shudhdhikaran’ movement for the Harijans and worked for the emancipation of women. He was the President of the Conference in Bombay (1932) for the removal of untouchability. In 1941, he started the ‘Cow Protection Society’.

 He died on November 12, 1946, at the age of 85 but his vision is still alive. On December 24, 2014, Madan Mohan Malaviya was honored with Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour for his selfless service towards his motherland. Madan Mohan has served the nation in every way – like an educationalist, a journalist or as a politician. His purpose of life was to serve his fellowmen, keep a sense of duty towards God and his motherland alive and to promote the welfare of public. He was a true leader and an inspiration for many.
