You observe that many of the students of your school leave lights and fans turned on in classrooms while they go out for some activity periods. You feel this is a very bad practice which wastes the country’s resource as well. Discuss with your partner: • What problems do you think this could cause? • What should your reaction be? • How should other students react to something like this? • What should the teachers and school authority do to solve this problem? • Would your effort make the others realize something? • How can you create awareness regarding such things? • How would your parents consider the matter? • What role can students like you play to check such actions? • Who else do you think can help you solve this problem? • What do you think could be an incentive to motivate students to turn off lights and fans?

Since many facilities are easily available to most of the people they don't realise that many people in far off villages do not know what electricity is or that an AC or heater can comfort them. 1.When students are bugged by teachers to shut of the lights and turn of the fans they don't usually listen and do the opposite. Such situation can be avoided if the teacher stays calm and makes the students understand the problem of energy crisis. 2.Scolding students work for some time but what makes them willing to do it is appreciation. Students who save resources must be praised. 3.When teachers and parents take the initiative students and children follow them. 4.People can be told about the hardships other face in making electricity available to them. 5.A drama can be organised by the school which depicts the importance of saving electricity. Sarcasm in such situations make students feel a little guilty for what they did and makes them a little more responsible.
