Contact forces at a distance - will they not be zero??
Contact forces exert force on a body through the point or line or surface of contact. So contact forces at a distance will not act...
Examples like friction force and normal reaction of a wall or floor.
Only if there is a contact between a body and rough floor friction acts.

i cannot understand it.can you please explain it?
contact force acts when two objects are in contact with each other. Like cricket bat and ball. During the time ball is in contact with the bat, the force acts. When a ball is on floor, through the point of contact, a normal reaction acts on ball. If ball is in air. There is no contact with floor. SO there is no contact force. Same way, After ball is hit by a bat, there is no more contact force.
does the ques. mean for force at a distance
