Sometimes a certain common name is not enough to indicate the particular species. In science, people from different countries with different languages have to read about each other's research work. So it was found necessary to eliminate any possible confusion in using local names by substituting them with names specially given in scientific language. This method of naming organisms is called binomial nomenclature and was introduced by Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778)
