Problem is that irrational numbers are NOT closed under addition. Therefore it is possible to add two irrational numbers, and end up with a rational number. (2 + √3) and (2 - √3) are two irrational numbers But their sum is not irrational: (2 + √3) + (2 - √3) = 4 So you cannot prove that irrational numbers added together equal an irrational number.
