Let the two objects be A and B.

Let the object A be released at t = 0 s

Initial velocity, u = 0m/s

Time, t₁ = 2 s

∴Distance travelled, h₁ = 1/2 gt₁²

= 1/2*9.8 * 2²

= 9.8 * 2

= 19.6 m

Object B is released at t₂ = 1 s

Initial velocity, u = 0m/s

Time, t₃ = 2-1 = 1s

Distance travelled, h₂ =1/2 gt₃² = 1/2 * g * 1²

= 1/2 * 9.8 * 1

= 9.8/2

= 4.9 m

Thus, distance between object A and B = 19.6 - 4.9

= 14.7 m
