Personification is a literary device-most likely to used in poetry. It means giving living features to a non-living thing. It gives live attributes to a non-living thing. objects are portrayed to be real and living. For example "ship raised her sails, high in the sky"- here , the ship is a non-living object which has been given a women's attributes and hence we say "her sails", we are giving her the ability to raise her sails.
