it's fragile and works as a resistor more than a conductor. as it is stiff and brittle, it cannot be used in wires, which require flexibility. as it is a carbon compound, it is used in resistors, which regulate electrical flow. take a pencil lead, attach a wire to one side, hook that up to a battery, then take the other battery terminal, attach that to a small light bulb, and then run the wire from the bulb to the pencil lead. as you slide the wires further apart, the bulb will dim.

Graphite is not used for making cablr due to the following reasons :-

it is brittle and hence the wire would not be able to be coiled

it has high resistivity i.e. it acts more as a resistor than as a good conductor
