it's fragile and works as a resistor more than a conductor. as it is
stiff and brittle, it cannot be used in wires, which require
flexibility. as it is a carbon compound, it is used in resistors, which
regulate electrical flow. take a pencil lead, attach a wire to one side,
hook that up to a battery, then take the other battery terminal, attach
that to a small light bulb, and then run the wire from the bulb to the
pencil lead. as you slide the wires further apart, the bulb will dim.
