Nature of occupational structure at the time of independence :-
1. At that time about 72.2% of working population was engaged in agriculture. This establishes backwardness of the Indian economy at the time of independence.
2. Nearly 90% of the working population in India was engaged in manufacturing industries, mining etc.
2. Secondary and tertiary sectors were in their infant stage of growth. It showed unbalanced growth.
