Mona: hey! what are you doing Maya?
Maya: what did I do ? why are you scolding me?
Mona: you have kept the fan as well as the AC on. you even kept the TV as well as the computer on.
Maya: I thought i would see TV and computer at a time and its too hot outside so i kept both of them on.
Mona: why don't you understand the importance of electricity?
Maya: what will happen if i keep them on? i am not the only one who does that. every friend of mine does that.
Mona: electricity is very important. we need to conserve it. the demand of electricity is increasing but the production is decreasing.
do you off the fans and lights when you go out of a room?
Maya: No i don't.
Mona: due to this a lot of electricity is being wasted. if you waste it like this then one day will come when you will have no electricity. do you want it to happen?
Maya: No, i would never want it to happen. from now on I will always off the lights and fans before i leave a room.
Mona: so what should you do now?
Maya: oh right! i will switch of the TV and the AC.
Me : Raina, why do you not turn off the lights and fans when you come out from a room? It's a very bad habit.
Sister : How does it matter to us? We are using electricity and papa is paying for it. What's the harm in that?
Me : No Raina, you might be thinking that this is all to electricity. But no, this is not true.
Sister : Please elaborate...
Me : Electricity comes from water. You must have learnt about it in school. And the water we drink comes from that very water. So just think, if you're wasting electricity, you're wasting the water that it comes from and if you're wasting the water from which electricity comes, you're wasting the water you drink. And it might be such that one day, you won't have water to drink as the electricity you've been wasting has wasted the water you drink. Did you understand?
Sister : Yes and I will never ever waste electricity. Never.
Me : That's like a good girl. So now have you understood the importance of conserving electricity?
Sister : I will never leave the room without checking if I've switched off the lights and fans. But how do the electricity makers make electricity from water?
Me : ( Laughing ) That's another huge story. I'll tell you about it later. But will you make a promise of keeping your word?
Sister : Promise!
The parts said by 'Me' is actually said by the elder sister Roshni.
