Firstly good question.

Plants need carbohydrates for obtaining energy.

This process needs oxygen for it.

And this oxygen is produced by carbondioxide by the method of photosynthesis

But the question arises here.why do plants liberate oxygen then?

It is because plants use some amount of oxygen and liberate much oxygen.

It is to be noted that plants even use oxygen that is absorbed during night and carbondioxide that is absorbed during day.
